This case involves a young lady who presented with chest pain and arrythmia after under going a CVP line placement. Upon attempted removal of the CVP line, unfortunately, the catheter was lost into the vascular system. The CVP line moved freely back to the heart, right atrium, right ventricle and out the pulmonary artery. Later xrays show the CVP line lodged in the right pulmonary artery.
A request was made to the Interventional Radiology Department to attempt removal of the CVP line in the Right Pulmonary Artery.
A snare technique was used. A Pulmonary catheter was advanced via the right femoral vein through the heart and into the right pulmonary artery. Once in place at the CVP line in the pulmonary artery, a wire snare was advanced and pulled snug arounf the CVP line. The Line could then be pulled out along with the angiographic catheter. The patient has an uneventful recovery.
